Temporary Finance Officer – Project Support

Overview

Express Recruitment are seeking an experienced Finance Officer to support the delivery of an efficient and effective Exchequer service for an essential department within a reputable Local Authority. If you are someone who thrives on overseeing the full finance function, including managing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong financial controls, then this one is for you!

The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of daily operations for the Financial Transactions and Income Collection teams, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently while maintaining excellent standards.

Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience working within a finance, accounts or exchequer environment
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, experience of IT accounting systems
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable or income management processes
  • Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to reconcile financial information and investigate discrepancies
  • Local Government or Public Sector finance experience would be advantageous
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Liaising with creditors, debtors and income management departments via telephone and email
  • Process accounts payable transactions including weekly BACS and creditor payment runs
  • Ensure accurate VAT payments are completed within the timescale deadline and support with CIS verification and deductions
  • Set up and maintain supplier and customer accounts in accordance with Council policies
  • Process debtor invoices, credit notes and support the recovery of outstanding debts
  • Assist with income management, cash collection and reconciliation of financial transactions
  • Monitor financial records, investigate discrepancies and clear overdue accounts once received, always maintaining the accuracy of accounting systems
  • Respond promptly to finance-related enquiries from internal departments, suppliers and members of the public
  • Support year-end financial processes relating to creditors and debtors
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on purchasing, invoicing and financial procedures
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports and performance information
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, auditors and external organisations to support the effective delivery of finance services
