Overview

Express Recruitment are currently seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Buying Manager to join a dynamic and fast-paced organisation. This role is ideal for an experienced procurement professional with a strong background in sourcing both direct and indirect materials and services, particularly within rail, manufacturing or engineering environments.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in procurement within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of delivering cost savings
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities
  • Highly organised with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions
  • Proactive, adaptable, and results-oriented mindset
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead procurement activities across direct and indirect categories, with a focus on manufacturing and engineering materials
  • Engage early with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure optimal sourcing strategies for all projects
  • Drive vendor negotiations and develop a clear roadmap for delivering sustainable cost savings
  • Build and maintain long-term supplier partnerships while continuously improving supplier performance
  • Ensure materials are delivered on time and in full to meet operational and project demands
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve material issues and respond to changing requirements
  • Manage inventory effectively, reducing obsolete stock and establishing appropriate safety stock levels
  • Deliver key performance indicators across cost, cash, quality, and service metrics
  • Proactively manage and resolve invoice queries
  • Provide support on ad hoc projects and business initiatives as required
  • Undertake any additional duties in line with the needs of the business
